1 Oct
2026

Digital waste tracking is now the law. Since 1 October 2026, permitted and licensed waste sites in England and Wales must report every load they receive to DEFRA within two working days. Scrap yards with an environmental permit are included. TipTrack sends each ticket to DEFRA for you as you work, and shows you anything that still needs attention. Check if you need to report on GOV.UK.

What it does

Built around the counter, not the office

A load comes over the bridge, the seller walks in, you pay by transfer. TipTrack follows that order and fills in the paperwork as you go.

Weighbridge tickets

Tickets in under a minute

Pick the seller, type gross and tare, choose the grade. TipTrack works out the net weight and price from your price list and gives the ticket its number.

  • Your own ticket numbers, with your prefix, e.g. DY-00412
  • Price per tonne by grade, with price history kept
  • EWC codes and recovery codes set once per grade
  • No cash. Bank transfer or cheque only, as the Scrap Metal Dealers Act requires

Seller check-in

Sellers check themselves in

Put a tablet at the gate or a QR poster on the wall. Sellers type their own name, address and vehicle and photograph their ID. It pops up on your counter screen with a sound. You check the ID in person and accept.

  • No retyping names and addresses at a busy counter
  • ID photos stored against the seller for 3 years
  • Works on any phone, with no app to install

DEFRA digital waste tracking

Reported to DEFRA as you work

Connect your DEFRA API code once. Each completed ticket at a permitted site is queued and sent to DEFRA's Receipt of Waste service, well inside the two working day limit.

  • Due-by date on every load
  • Accepted, waiting or needs attention at a glance
  • Exempt sites keep their records but aren't sent

Police and council inspections

Ready when the police call in

Every record the Act requires is in one register: seller, address, ID seen, vehicle, metal, weight, date and time, and how you paid. Filter by date, seller or vehicle registration and print or export it in seconds.

  • Records kept for 3 years
  • Every change to a seller is logged
  • Clerks can't quietly edit names or addresses
